CEO Joo Sun Choi highlights a year of building the foundation for renewed growth and expects an earnings turnaround this year
Calls for transformation into an AI‑native company to "ride the wave of change to become a company with top‑tier technological capabilities”
SAMNSUNG SDI today announced that it held a commemorative ceremony at its headquarters in Giheung to mark the company’s 56th anniversary.
President and CEO Joo Sun Choi said in his commemorative speech, “Over the past year, we have steadily strengthened the fundamentals of our business with a mindset of ‘pessimistic optimism’, laying the groundwork for a renewed leap forward,” adding that “as promised earlier this year, we expect an earnings turnaround to be achievable this year.”
Choi expressed his gratitude to employees, highlighting achievements across each business division.
He pointed recent accomplishments, including a series of new energy storage system project wins, supply agreements with global premium EV makers, ongoing efforts to restore the core competitiveness of cylindrical batteries, and proactive moves into high‑value growth areas such as advanced packaging semiconductor materials and high‑definition, high‑efficiency display materials.
Choi noted, however, that “there is still a long way to go,” emphasizing that “consistent execution is essential for these achievements to translate into sustainable growth.”
Choi also urged employees to actively use AI in their work, as AI increasingly drives innovation and change across every field.
“AI is already embedded in many aspects of our daily lives,” he said. “To secure a leading position in future markets, SAMNSUNG SDI must fully transform itself into a true AI-native company.”
He emphasized that “Agentic AI constitutes a paradigm shift that fundamentally changes the way work is done and how business models are built,” adding that “by boldly riding this wave of change, we can once again become a company with top‑tier technological capabilities.”
The ceremony was attended by key management, including CEO Choi, as well as recipients of the SDI Awards for outstanding performance and long‑service employees. The event featured an awards presentation followed by a town hall meeting.
