In 2004, SAMSUNG SDI became the very first in South Korea to make the list of Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) World and has since been named on the list the highest times than any other Korean companies, a testament to its commitment and dedication to
corporate sustainability home and abroad.
In line with the global push for more sustainable world, we actively seek to participate in global voluntary initiatives and ensure transparency in publishing ESG disclosures.
RE100 is a global corporate renewable energy initiative bringing together businesses committed to 100% renewable electricity aligned to the successful implementation of the Paris Agreement. SAMSUNG SDI joined RE100 in October 2022 and committed to transitioning to full renewable energy by 2050. We aim to achieve RE100 at all overseas corporations by 2025, and at all domestic operations by 2050.
SAMSUNG SDI joined the UN Global Compact to strengthen corporate social responsibility in July 2022, and enunciated the 10 UNGC principles in the areas of human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption.
We joined the GBA that aims to establish sustainable battery value chains in March 2023. We will participate in the GBA’s Battery Passport development efforts to thoroughly prepare for the Battery Passport which is expected to become mandatory.
We joined the K-EV100, a project led by the Ministry of Environment of Korea. This initiative aims to drive businesses to switch to zero-emission cars for their corporate vehicles either owned or leased. Our goal is to make a full transition to EVs for our owned or leased business vehicles and build corresponding charging infrastructure by 2030.
In 2020, we joined the RMI (Responsible Minerals Initiative) to make concerted efforts with the global community to improve mineral sourcing practices. As a member of the RMI, we step up our efforts to make improvements on supply chain due diligence.
In 2019, we partnered with Samsung Electronics, BMW, and BASF in undertaking the Cobalt for Development Project for the betterment of working conditions and communities in the vicinity of cobalt mines in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
In March 2021, we became the first in the battery industry to call for moratoriums on deep seabed mining (DSB) in conjunction with BMW, Volvo and Google among others to protect the marine ecosystem.
In line with the increasingly stronger demand raised by investors to disclose information on the climate crisis, we are transparently communicating our climate crisis strategy and our progress made in reducing GHG emissions through the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP).
SAMSUNG SDI has been publishing its annual sustainability reports in accordance with the sustainability reporting standards of GRI (Global Reporting Initiative).
We disclose the sustainability information based on the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD).
SAMSUNG SDI analyze and identify sustainability issues in accordance with the industry- specific standards set forth by SASB (Sustainability Accounting Standards Board.)

SAMSUNG SDI has obtained a number of international certificates that include ISO 9001 – quality management system, ISO14001 – environmental management system, ISO45001 - occupational health and safety management systems, and ISO50001 - energy management system.
