Company signs supply agreement with Germany’s Tesvolt with additional orders expected in 2H
Deal recognizes SAMSUNG SDI globally for technological prowess in battery safety and quality
SAMSUNG SDI aims to accelerate its expansion in the global ESS market based on its strong product competitiveness
SAMSUNG SDI today announced that it has recently signed an agreement with Tesvolt, a German full-service provider of innovative energy storage solutions for public utilities and commerce, to supply batteries for energy storage systems.
Under the agreement, SAMSUNG SDI will supply its SAMSUNG Battery Box (SBB) to Tesvolt by the end of this month. Tesvolt will integrate power conversion system (PCS) and cybersecurity system into the SBB, and provide its proprietary ESS solution for European customers.

In addition to the latest agreement, the two companies will continue discussions for additional battery supplies and strengthen their cooperation by making joint promotional efforts to secure future ESS business opportunities.
SAMSUNG SDI's SBB is a 20-foot container equipped with battery cells, modules, and racks. It is ready for immediate use upon connection to the power grid. It has been recognized in global markets, mainly in the U.S. and Europe, for its significantly enhanced safety features.
SAMSUNG SDI plans to complete supply of the current SBB 1.0 model to Tesvolt, and begin supplying SBB 1.5 starting in the second quarter of next year.
Launched last year, SBB 1.5 is an upgraded model featuring enhanced capacity, safety, and ease of installation and operation. It received the Innovation Award at CES 2025, the world’s largest tech event, held earlier this year in Las Vegas.
Founded in 2014, Tesvolt is a leading p in the European commercial ESS market. The company has demonstrated rapid growth, as it secured a supply contract last year for an ESS facility in Rhineland-Palatinate, a state in southwestern Germany.
The company has recently expanded its business into the public utilities sector, and is expected to strengthen its cooperation with SAMSUNG SDI known for its focus on product safety, quality, and technological competitiveness.
Tesvolt recently announced the strengthening of its partnership with SAMSUNG SDI, stating “The SBB features a unique solution to prevent battery fires, the Enhanced Direct Injection System (EDI), and is also highly durable and low noise.” The company also added, “SAMSUNG SDI provides a battery storage system that suits the needs of ESS system operators,” indicating the potentials for continued collaboration.
“We have been supplying batteries for ESS to Tesvolt since 2017, and with the addition of the SBB supply, our cooperation is expected to grow even stronger,” said a SAMSUNG SDI official. “We will continue to accelerate our expansion into global ESS markets, including Europe.”
In its Q1 earnings call held in April, SAMSUNG SDI announced “Based on the product competitiveness of the SBB, known for its safety and high energy density, we have already secured orders equivalent to 90 percent of our planned capacity for ESS batteries this year.”
