Company to exhibit a variety of collaborative works with major customers including Hyundai Motor and Kia
Next-generation products, including the 46-series cylindrical batteries, on display for the first time
SAMSUNG SDI to showcase the present and future of batteries that enhance everyday life through safe and innovative battery technologies
SEOUL, Korea – March 3, 2025 – SAMSUNG SDI today announced that it will unveil robots and autonomous vehicles powered by the company’s high-performance batteries at InterBattery 2025, introducing a new lifestyle that will be upgraded by innovative battery technologies.
The company will also showcase the next-generation 46-series cylindrical battery lineup in addition to its flagship Hi-Nickel NCA, high-voltage Mid-Nickel and LFP technologies and products as it suggests diversified marketing strategies.
Under the slogan of “InCelligent Life, Upgrading Our Daily Lives with Battery Technologies,” SAMSUNG SDI will exhibit a variety of battery innovations in the most spacious booth at InterBattery 2025, the largest battery industry tradeshow held in Seoul every year.
To suggest future potentials of battery technologies through various collaborations
SAMSUNG SDI will exhibit futuristic products such as robots and an autonomous shuttle bus in collaboration with major partners to present the future potentials of batteries that will drive innovation.
At the SAMSUNG SDI booth, DAL-e and MobED from Robotics LAB at Hyundai Motor and Kia will welcome visitors. DAL-e is a service robot that is designed to interact with visitors through simple communication and practical demonstrations. For example, DAL-e will be introducing SAMSUNG SDI's batteries to visitors at the exhibit. Next to DAL-e, there will be MobED, a multiuse mobile platform. Thanks to the four wheels on its rectangular parallelepiped body, MobED can drive stably and quickly even on uneven road surfaces or with obstacles.
It is the very first time that SAMSUNG SDI to roll out joint marketing activities with Hyundai Motor and Kia at InterBattery. The three companies signed a memorandum of understanding on development of specialized batteries for robots on Feb. 24.
On the other side of the booth, the company will be showcasing ROii that will lure visitors even more. ROii is a Level 4 autonomous bus developed by A2Z, Korea's leading autonomous driving startup. Visitors can ride in the vehicle to experience firsthand the future of mobility powered by SAMSUNG SDI’s battery technologies.
DAL-e, MobED, and ROii are all powered by SAMSUNG SDI's 21700 cylindrical batteries.
Also on display, will be Audi’s latest Q6 e-tron Performance that was launched in Korea last month. The newest Audi electric vehicle runs on 180 prismatic batteries that offer a driving range of 641 kilometers based on the WLTP measurement.
Unveiling innovative products including the next-generation 46-series cylindrical battery lineup
SAMSUNG SDI will also unveil the 46-series cylindrical battery lineup for the first time.
The 46-series battery with a diameter of 46 millimeters is expected to lead the cylindrical battery market as it offers significantly improved energy density and power compared to the existing 21700 (21mm diameter, 70mm height) cylindrical battery.
SAMSUNG SDI's 46-series battery lineup include 4680, 4695, 46100, and 46120, which have the same diameter of 46mm and the height of 80mm, 95mm, 100mm, and 120mm, respectively. This diverse lineup ensures optimized battery options for a wide range of customer needs.
SAMSUNG SDI began producing cylindrical batteries in the late 1990s and has accumulated stable production and expertise over the years. By applying differentiated material technology, the company has enhanced the lifespan, safety and cost competitiveness of 46-series cylindrical batteries.
The company will also be introducing a new high-power battery for UPS, crucial for stable operations of data centers. Compared to the previous battery, the new product offers a 40 percent increase in output per rack, enabling customers to improve space efficiency and save costs.
With the new product, SAMSUNG SDI plans to further expand its 80 percent share in the UPS market.
Along with it, the company’s flagship ESS product SAMSUNG Battery Box 1.5 will be on display. The SBB 1.5, equipped with an upgraded Enhanced Direct Injection (EDI) technology to prevent battery thermal diffusion, has ensured greater safety compared to its predecessor 1.0, maximizing customer satisfaction.
The InterBattery 2025 will also offer a glimpse of SAMSUNG SDI’s electric vehicle battery portfolio optimized for the EV market.
The company is differentiating its EV battery technologies by applying innovative material and electrode technologies to its prismatic battery form factor to raise both energy density and lifespan.
In addition to the premium Hi-Nickel NCA battery, SAMSUNG SDI is introducing affordable Mid-Nickel NCM battery as well as LFP battery under a strategy to respond proactively to diverse market needs.
“This exhibition will offer a great opportunity to experience the differentiated battery technologies that SAMSUNG SDI has developed over years, including prismatic and cylindrical batteries.” said a SAMSUNG SDI official. “We hope visitors will explore the present and future of SAMSUNG SDI’s batteries by experiencing the various form factors, product lineups, and collaborative works with our customers which will, for sure, enhance our daily lives.”
