The Korea Battery Industry Association has named the winners of the InterBattery Awards for products and technologies that scored high on technical excellence, innovation, productivity, and contribution to industry development ahead of InterBattery 2025, which will be held at COEX in Seoul, South Korea, kicking off on March 5.
This achievement follows last year’s InterBattery Awards, where SAMSUNG SDI won the Best Innovation Award for its SAMSUNG Battery Box (SBB) energy storage system, further showcasing the company’s technological competitiveness with two award-winning innovations this year.
“This award proves SAMSUNG SDI's technological capabilities to constantly innovate and challenge. We will continue to proactively discover future technologies in advance of the upcoming supercycle.” said a SAMSUNG SDI official.
The 50A High Power Cylindrical Battery Cell features a tabless design with multiple tabs on the ends of the electrodes, extending current path and reaching the industry's highest capacity. When applied to power tools, it increases the power by up to 40% compared to batteries of the same capacity used in the current market, significantly improving work efficiency.
The battery is expected to launch in the second quarter of this year and will offer high power, fast-charging and long lifespan while enhancing user convenience. The fast charging technology enables an 80% charge in 15 minutes and the new material improves battery life.
The Material and Electrode Technology for LFP+ Platform is a solution to enhance energy density and cell resistance of LFP batteries. SAMSUNG SDI has developed a technology that blends LFP with high-nickel material to improve energy density by about 10% compared to conventional LFP batteries, while achieving results similar to LFP in cell safety evaluations.
The company has also applied a new electrolyte additive to suppress side reactions on the LFP surface that occur when blending LFP and the high-nickel material, while using high conductive materials to improve the cell resistance growth rate.
At InterBattery 2025, SAMSUNG SDI will showcase its winning products, as well as its innovative battery technologies for various applications, including safety-enhanced prismatic batteries and next-generation All Solid Battery.
