Company to showcase secure battery technologies incorporated in its prismatic batteries, including 'No Thermal Propagation' technology
SAMSUNG Battery Box 1.5 and high-power cylindrical batteries on display for differentiated innovation
"InCelligent Life suggests a life that upgrades our daily lives with battery technologies "
SEOUL, Korea – February 23, 2025 – SAMSUNG SDI today announced that the company will participate in is Korea's leading battery exhibition, InterBattery 2025, which will be held at COEX in Seoul, South Korea from March 5 to 7.
Hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and co-organized by the Korea Battery Industry Association, COEX and KOTRA, Interbattery 2025 will mark its 13th year since debuting in 2013. This year, over 640 companies, including SAMSUNG SDI, major battery manufacturers and material companies, are participating, making it the largest exhibition ever.
At the exhibition, SAMSUNG SDI will showcase a wide range of next-generation battery products and innovations under the slogan “InCelligent Life, upgrading our daily lives with battery technologies”.
SAMSUNG SDI's booth will showcase the company's differentiated battery technologies and the values that enable innovative daily life, emphasizing safety, quality, and enhanced security. The company will have the largest booth among the participants, featuring a wide range of battery-powered products, including electric vehicles, power tools and mobile devices. Visitors can also explore the company’s latest product lineup that integrates its state-of-the-art technology.
The company is expected to reveal its roadmap for future technology development, including prismatic batteries and all-solid-state batteries, which are considered among the industry’s most technologically competitive products, as well as Cell-to-Pack concept products and new energy storage system (ESS) SAMSUNG Battery Box.
Highlighting SAMSUNG SDI’s Competitiveness in Industry-Leading Prismatic Battery Technology
Three key technologies to sum up the exhibit are 'No Thermal Propagation (No PT)', All Solid Battery (ASB), and Cell-to-Pack (CTP) for differentiated safety technologies.
SAMSUNG SDI’s NO TP technology is designed to physically prevent heat from spreading to other cells. The company’s Thermal Propagation Calculator Program (TPc) enables optimal structural design to prevent thermal propagation from the product planning stage.
The company will also share updates on its development status of ASB, using a solid electrolyte, known as the game-changer of the industry, at the exhibit.
SAMSUNG SDI, known as the leader of the all solid-state battery industry, provided samples of its ASB for multiple customers, and is progressing smoothly for mass production in 2027.
For CTP technology, the company also plans to exbibit a real-size mock-up, equipped with top-terminal and side-terminal prismatic batteries.
Unlike the top terminal design where both electrodes are located on the top, the side-terminal design positions the electrodes on the side, enhancing both energy density and safety.
Introducing High-Power Cylindrical Battery and SBB 1.5
SAMSUNG SDI will unveil 50-Ampere High Power Cylindrical Battery Cell. This product achieves the industry's highest capacity by applying a tabless design that extends the current path through the use of multiple tabs on the ends of the electrodes.
When applied to power tools, it can increase the power by up to 40% compared to batteries of the same capacity used in the current market, significantly improving work efficiency.
In addition, SAMSUNG SDI's flagship Energy Storage System product, the SAMSUNG Battery Box (SBB) 1.5, which reliably supports renewable power grids, will also be exhibited.
SBB is an ESS product that installs battery cells, modules, and racks in a 20-foot container box. SBB 1.5 enhances safety and capacity compared to the previous version, while improving installation convenience and increasing customer satisfaction.
SBB was recognized for its technological prowess in the US and European markets and received the Best Innovation Award at InterBattery 2024 last year.
Partnership on Autonomous Buses, ESG Activities to Attract Visitors’ Attention
The futuristic autonomous bus ROii, which is being showcased through joint marketing with a customer, is expected to captivate visitors. ROii is a Level 4 autonomous bus from A2Z, Korea's leading autonomous driving startup, and is equipped with 4,000 of SAMSUNG SDI's 21700 cylindrical batteries.
In addition, various ESG activities, such as establishment of a battery recycling ecosystem and carbon footprint certification, will also be on display at the exhibition.
“SAMSUNG SDI has been continuously striving for qualitative growth based on differentiated technology and quality,” said a SAMSUNG SDI official. “Through this exhibition, visitors will be able to see how the battery technology is upgrading our daily lives and experience SAMSUNG SDI's battery technology competitiveness that makes it possible.”
