Company unveils new lineup of next-generation batteries, including LFP+ featuring higher energy density, all-solid-state and 46-phi cylindrical batteries
SAMSUNG SDI CEO vows to continue supplying top-quality and safety-ensured batteries through close collaboration with customers
SEOUL, Korea – September 18, 2024 – SAMSUNG SDI announced today the company will be showcasing a lineup of next-generation battery solutions optimized for electric commercial vehicles, ranging from the newest LFP+ (lithium iron phosphate) battery, all solid-state battery and 46-phi cylindrical battery at IAA Transportation 2024.
The company is taking part in the IAA 2024, scheduled to take place from Sept. 17 to 22, in Hanover, Germany. The 120-year motor show marks the world’s biggest tradeshow for vehicles. For this year’s IAA dedicated to the commercial vehicle sector, SAMSUNG SDI has introduced its LFP+ battery product optimized for electric commercial vehicles. SAMSUNG’s LFP+ battery, applied with a novel electrode technology, has 10 percent higher energy density than previous LFP battery. A commercial vehicle on SAMSUNG’s LFP+ can have over 1,400 round trips between Hanover and Frankfurt, owing to its longer lifespan. The battery can be charge up to 80 percent in 20 minutes as applied with the latest charging technology, which is essential for long-range driving.
In addition, SAMSUNG SDI has applied its proprietary No Thermal Propagation technology to further enhance safety of LFP+.

SAMSUNG SDI has completed the development of LFP+, and is currently discussing mass-production plans with multiple customers.
The global market for electric commercial vehicles is deemed with great growth potential as environmental regulations on engine-based commercial vehicles get toughened in Europe and North America. According to market researcher SNE Research, the market for electric commercial vehicles is forecast to grow from 47GWh in 2024 to 177GWh in 2030, growing by 25 percent annually.
“SAMSUNG SDI has always been striving to lead the electric vehicle market based on differentiated technological prowess,” said Yoon-ho Choi, President and CEO of SAMSUNG SDI. “The company will continue working closely with major customers around the world to provide top-quality and safety-ensured battery products.”
At IAA 2024, visitors can also check out SAMSUNG SDI’s All Solid Battery (ASB) and 46-phi cylindrical batteries. SAMSUNG’s ASB sporting its proprietary anode-less technology is under development of mass production in 2027, aiming to provide the industry’s highest energy density. The company has sent out ASB samples to multiple customers to work on commercialization as planned. SAMSUNG also plans to release its 46-phi cylindrical batteries for micro-mobility applications early next year, a year ahead of initially planned.
As an environment-friendly business, SAMSUNG SDI exhibits its efforts for and commitment to environment, social, government management for its partners and suppliers, such as the well-established closed-loop ecosystem, at the IAA booth.
